#5. Quantity first
When I do things solely for me, I do them with freedom, focus, and passion. When I do them for others, freedom and passion often make way for diligence and refinement.
Take something that I’m actually quite interested in - sharing my ideas / thoughts with many people. I started this newsletter exactly for that. Yet, knowing that these words will not just reside in an unvisited blog online, and that they’ll reach your inbox, places meaningful pressure on me to “write well”.
Lightness leaves, weight arrives.
There’s really only one way to grow and have the impact that I want to have. Push through the discomfort of being ‘visible’, write freely, don’t over-edit, publish, promote - give this newsletter my best, and avoid the self-sabotage that comes from secretly wanting to stay invisible.
In other words, I feel the pressure of quality right now, and that’s preventing me from writing freely, which in turn hurts both quality and quantity. I’ve decided to solve this by focusing on quantity. Let’s get content out there regularly, and accept that not all of it may meet the amorphous bar for “quality” in my mind.
